(3) Randall: Right, well you had just defeated the evil cleric and the bishop had succeded in purifying the sacrificial knife. You have rested over night and must now decide what to do next
** (4) Lae'nial casts fireball at you. **
(3) Randall: You all break your fast in the monastery dining room
** (1) Chtkrilktha grumbles at fleshies food **
(3) Randall: As you eat the bishop walks up to you.
(3) Randall: "Did you have a good nights rest" he asks
(4) Lae'nial: "Yes."
(2) Shaorin: Yes
(1) Chtkrilktha: "The stream is quiet, troubling dreams no more."
(3) Randall: "I am glad to hear it. You have already done so much, I hesitate to ask for more but I have 1 more task for you to do
** (4) Lae'nial looks attentive - Really, it's hard to look otherwise when you have ears like that. **
(2) Shaorin: Oh, don't worry about it. I make a lifestyle out of searching for good things to do.
** (5) Kelensiya finishes eating and goes off to a corner to practice **
** (5) Kelensiya occasionally stares at Chtkrillktha **
(3) Randall: "The wand you recovered is a powerful artifact, I would rest more peacefully if you could convey it to the citadel in the city
(2) Shaorin: If there aren't any good deeds needing my attention left, I go somewhere else in search of them
(2) Shaorin: "The" city?
(3) Randall: yes, Magnos the regional capital
(2) Shaorin: (is that the city we came here from?)
(3) Randall: "I would feel much safer if it was there"
(3) Randall: oc: yes, it's the same city
(2) Shaorin: I'm up for it.
(2) Shaorin: What about the rest of you?
(4) Lae'nial: "I scarcely have else to do."
(3) Randall: OC: OpenRPG needs a better way to write letters in the whiteboard
(1) Chtkrilktha: "Creatures of fur look crossly at my kind. Such a mass would be hysterical."
(3) Randall: "Good" the bishop gestures towards the bard in the corner, beckoning her over" Kelensiya here is headed for MAgnos, she can go with you. Finally, as payment for all you have done I have a gift"
** (5) Kelensiya hears her name mentioned and packs up, walking to the bishop **
(3) Randall: He pulls out a small knife from his pocket. With some shock you recognise it. However now the sacrificial knife appears less dreadful.
(5) Kelensiya: You mentioned me, your worship?
(3) Randall: "The knife is now safe, but I need true heroes to help it cast off its previous reputation. I am sure if you use it it will become a powerful force for good." He present syou witht he kjnife
(3) Randall: "Yes Kelensiya. These heroes are heading for the city. You can travel with them."
(5) Kelensiya: Ah, many thanks.
** (5) Kelensiya turns to look at the oddly matched party **
(5) Kelensiya: I daresay you wouldn't protest too much if I travelled with you?
** (1) Chtkrilktha warily regards the new pointy eared one **
(2) Shaorin: (I'm pretty sure taking the knife myself would violate my Vow of Poverty, so someone else should get it)
(4) Lae'nial: (Someone who has meelee ability)
(5) Kelensiya: (I'm not pointy eared, I think I'm the only human here)
(2) Shaorin: Another travelling companion would of course be welcome through the hostile glacier
(1) Chtkrilktha: (I thought you were an elf, from the forums. sorry)
(5) Kelensiya: A glacier? Hmm... cold.
(2) Shaorin: (we're in the middle of the glacier already)
** (1) Chtkrilktha will take the knife if noone else wants it **
(5) Kelensiya: (Ah. Well, here, there's fireplaces)
** (1) Chtkrilktha eyes the new furry creature warily **
** (5) Kelensiya looks at Chtkrilktha **
** (4) Lae'nial looks at his soup **
(5) Kelensiya: You're not a musical type, are you?
** (4) Lae'nial shrugs and eats the dead fly **
(1) Chtkrilktha: "There is great harmony in the sounds of the sands blowing through the dunes. These cold places are without life, without character."
(3) Randall: OC: how do i clear the whiteboard
(5) Kelensiya: I see, you're one of those who can find music in nature.
(5) Kelensiya: The lack of counterpoint often causes me difficulties in appreciating such sounds.
(3) Randall: OC: got it
(1) Chtkrilktha: (right click and hit remove a bunch of times)
(3) Randall: OK then. After breakfast you make your goodbyes to the bishop and depart
(3) Randall: You travel for a few days until you reach the city
(4) Lae'nial: (BRB)
(3) Randall: Once you arrive you head for the citadel. Once there you poresent your credentials and are ushered in
** (5) Kelensiya accompanies the group out of curiosity and a potential for a job here... **
** (1) Chtkrilktha eyes the throng of fleshy creatures warily **
(2) Shaorin: (from what little you've overheard of us from the Bishop, we might make excellent fodder for songs/poems/ballads/whatever art form you specialize in)
(5) Kelensiya: (fodder? interesting way of putting it...)
(3) Randall: YOu wait in a room for a short time before the Archbishop arrives, followed as always by his entourage. He elaves them outside however as he closes the door
(5) Kelensiya: (can we assume that we've gotten to know each other a bit on the journey? names, a bit of history, etc.)
(2) Shaorin: ("song fodder" is a term that seems to be used pretty commonly in that context in my experience)
(3) Randall: OC: You had a few days to talk
(4) Lae'nial: (Back)
(2) Shaorin: You may forget any worries about that cursed knife and the evil cleric that sought it, Archbishop.
(2) Shaorin: The knife is cleansed, and the cleric is dead.
(3) Randall: "I thought you had killed the cleric already when you gained the knife?"
(4) Lae'nial: "Undead."
(2) Shaorin: It seems he came back as some sort of undead
(2) Shaorin: This time, we kept the body and made certain it wouldn't rise again.
(3) Randall: "Hmm, surprising but I suppose when dealing with the serrvants of the Lich such things are not totally unexcpected
(3) Randall: "At least I am glad to see you all ok, even if some of you are unfamiliar to me"
whispering to Randall, So should I try to play up the shaman quest thing?
(2) Shaorin: We met the insect-like creature (have you ever told us what you are?) in our quest to purge the knife, and it proved of great help.
(2) Shaorin: It's name is Chtkrilktha
(2) Shaorin: Kelensiya here just travelled with us on our way back, and can introduce herself
(1) Chtkrilktha: "The currents had to be calmed. A dark portent flowed, disrupting the great balance."
(3) Randall: " Please. I am interested to hear exactly what happened"
** (5) Kelensiya waits until the story gets to a suitable point for her introduction **
** (4) Lae'nial begins reciting details in an orderly fashion. **
(2) Shaorin: We tangled briefly with some ice goblins on the way to the monastery Bishop Artor resides in, but got there relatively uneventfully
(3) Randall: The Archbishop listens Intently.
(2) Shaorin: (I'm assuming this is partly recap for Violist)
(5) Kelensiya: (I read through the previous adventures)
(2) Shaorin: (oh)
(2) Shaorin: (in that case...)
(5) Kelensiya: (thanks anyways)
** (2) Shaorin tells the rest of the story **
(3) Randall: oc: well Violist read the reports didn't he? It's just to let the Archbishop know, and now here comes the reason
(3) Randall: "This wand you mention, where is it now?"
(2) Shaorin: Lae'nial, I believe you're the one carrying it.
(3) Randall: The Archbishop turns to Lae'nial
** (4) Lae'nial pulls it out and hands it over, being carefull not to point it at anyone. **
** (1) Chtkrilktha clicks **
(3) Randall: The Archbishop takes it and gently puts it away. "Fascianting" he says " You have my thanks for your deeds. Which makes what I have to say all the harder"
(3) Randall: "After you left for the glacier therte was much discussion of your presence. The church of Rad in particular was none too pleased about consorting with you. I have managed to overturn any calls for you incarceration, but I'm afraid we can not openly consort with you"
(2) Shaorin: Too much outcry about the elf?
(3) Randall: "You are free to go, but I can no longer organise things for you"
(3) Randall: "Yes"
(1) Chtkrilktha: "You humans will never learn not to fear difference."
(4) Lae'nial: "Fearing difference is rather wide-spread."
(2) Shaorin: *sigh* Changing widespread prejudice is not an easy task
(3) Randall: "ALthough I do not wish to defend them, there is still much bitterness to be found directed against elves
(3) Randall: "Still, I thank you for your efforts. It might be best if you left before the clerics of Rad were to hear of your presence" he pulls out a small medallion " p[lease accept this gift. If there are any further troubless, it might ease your difficulties
(3) Randall: The medallion has the Archbishops seal upon it
** (4) Lae'nial takes it. **
(4) Lae'nial: "Thank you."
(3) Randall: You are ushered out of the office
** (5) Kelensiya looks around a bit while getting ushered out, looking for inspiration for a song **
(5) Kelensiya: Do you do much consorting with holy men?
(3) Randall: You find yourself out on the street. People go about their business around you. There is a tavern just down the road
(2) Shaorin: We've been helping them out for a bit.
(3) Randall: brb
(5) Kelensiya: (brb, grabbing a byte to eat)
(2) Shaorin: The fact that we rescued a Paladin from almost certain death is the chief reason we weren't imprisoned or executed almost immediately on arrival simply because we had an elf among us.
(1) Chtkrilktha: (two elves)
(2) Shaorin: (and a half elf at that point, I think)
(2) Shaorin: (but only one of them is still in the party)
** (4) Lae'nial makes sure his hood is up. **
(5) Kelensiya: (lot of elf-hatin' going on right now)
(2) Shaorin: (it's pervasive throughout this region)
(3) Randall: several hundred years ago the humans threw off elven slavery. They still feel anger for the way the elves enslave dthem
(5) Kelensiya: (ahh, interesting twist)
(3) Randall: the elves live in tyhe forest
(5) Kelensiya: Lae'nial, I have a question for you, but it should wait 'til we are away from these rather prejudiced people. Don't let me forget, please.
** (4) Lae'nial nods. **
(3) Randall: OC: if you didn't pick it up, the original party are from another world
(5) Kelensiya: (oh. Didn't pick that up..)
(2) Shaorin: (except me, I'm from a far off land in this world)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (which really is just Lae'nial at this point)
(3) Randall: although, by now only lae'nial is not native
(3) Randall: wait a minute
** (1) Chtkrilktha clakcing **
(3) Randall: right, what does the party do next
** (4) Lae'nial examines the architecture in the area. **
(4) Lae'nial: Knowledge: Architecture and Engineering Skill Check: [1d20+8] -> [5,8] = (13)
** (1) Chtkrilktha suggests the archetypal tavern **
** (4) Lae'nial is dubious about being around so many people who would hate him. **
(5) Kelensiya: Errgh...
(5) Kelensiya: Well, I suppose I've got to start somewhere. Haven't practiced in a while, so a performance would be appropriate.
(3) Randall: The architecture is mostly human and gothic, with the occasioanl strucrture of slightly elvish design.
** (4) Lae'nial leans against the church wall. **
(4) Lae'nial: (Or nearest other wall)
** (5) Kelensiya starts singing a few scales quietly **
(3) Randall: So Lae'nial is leaning against the wall. Who is going to the tavern
(3) Randall: ?
** (2) Shaorin looks around for a place to donate 50 gp to. If the church has some obvious collection coffers, that will do nicely **
(3) Randall: those of you enetering the tavern make a spot check
** (2) Shaorin then goes to the tavern **
** (5) Kelensiya meanders to the tavern **
(5) Kelensiya: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+0] -> [20,0] = (20)
(2) Shaorin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+2] -> [9,2] = (11)
(5) Kelensiya: (whoa.)
(3) Randall: the coins make a satisfying clink as they drop into the box
(2) Shaorin: (... and the dice continue their streak of high rolls going with low modifiers for Violist :P)
(1) Chtkrilktha: Swim Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [7,4] = (11)
(3) Randall: There are a number of broadsheets pasted up on the wall by the side of the tavern entrance
(1) Chtkrilktha: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+3] -> [7,3] = (10)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (whoops)
** (1) Chtkrilktha swims into the tavern **
** (4) Lae'nial blinks. **
(3) Randall: The broadsheets are job notices. Merchants that want guards
** (2) Shaorin stares at the Thri-kreen swimming through air **
(4) Lae'nial: * For a moment, Lae'nial wonders if this world is supported on the back of a giant turtle.
(4) Lae'nial: * But only for moment. Then, sanity returns.
(4) Lae'nial: * But only at a distance, as this is D&D.
(2) Shaorin: ("It's turtle all the way down. Isn't that obvious?" :P)
(3) Randall: you notice the tavern is called the broken drum :) no not really
(5) Kelensiya: (such a great quote)
(5) Kelensiya: (lol)
(3) Randall: no one mention fire insurance
** (2) Shaorin idly checks the job posters **
** (5) Kelensiya asks if anyone knows if there's a concert hall **
(3) Randall: there are a number of posters
(5) Kelensiya: Gather Information Skill Check: [1d20+14] -> [3,14] = (17)
** (4) Lae'nial looks around. For a moment, he could swear there was a chest with legs... **
(4) Lae'nial: (Ok, I think that joke's dead)
(3) Randall: "Wanted experienced warriors to provide security for merchant ship. standard wages"
(3) Randall: "Needed: guards for merchnat route. generous pay"
** (2) Shaorin doesn't care about the wages. He's more interested in the details about what's being shipped where and for what cause **
(3) Randall: "guards wanted for long journey to dwarf mountains"
(3) Randall: they all say to enquire within
(1) Chtkrilktha: (never done a campaign with ships before)
(3) Randall: OC: I'll be honest. The ships are just to get to the next location. I havn't got rules for ship combat and stuff
(3) Randall: although I could try if you want
** (2) Shaorin gets knocked overboard **
** (2) Shaorin floats above the water **
** (2) Shaorin gets blown away by high wind :P **
(3) Randall: The tavern is loud with the conversation of the aptrons and the air is thick with pipeweed smoke
(3) Randall: OC: the merchant routes
(4) Lae'nial: (http://roleplaying.keenspace.com/d/20030112.html - Rules for ship travel)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (pirates! yarr matey)
(3) Randall: you'll have to wait and see
(1) Chtkrilktha: "Ah, sweet refreshing pipeweed."
(5) Kelensiya: (by the way, was 17 enough to actually learn the location of any concert halls nearby?)
(4) Lae'nial: (Well, not exactly rules - More like a short guidline)
(3) Randall: or maybe not, since I already said so
(3) Randall: according to the bard rules, you do know where the concert ahll is
(5) Kelensiya: This tavern is... as bad as I expected, I guess. I'll be out with Lae'nial.
** (5) Kelensiya goes outside again **
** (2) Shaorin starts asking about all the various merchant guard jobs **
(3) Randall: The barkeep points out the merchants at their tables
(3) Randall: Each is seated conducting interviews
** (1) Chtkrilktha follows Shaorin and stands behind and to the side of him ominously **
** (2) Shaorin finds a seat nearby and tries to listen unobtrusively, hoping to sort out which (if any) he'd want to help without having to talk to them all **
** (1) Chtkrilktha quietly suggests that he reads their thoughts to speed up the process **
** (2) Shaorin whispers back that he doesn't know how to do that **
(4) Lae'nial: (Yum, frozen yogurt)
(3) Randall: You overhear the merchants as they talk. One is going to the dwarvewn mountains, fromt he sound of it he expects it to take a month to get there. Another is heading south on ajourneyt that will take a week and a half. Finally the last merchant is going to delievr fabrics to the winter isles. it will take about a week to get there
(1) Chtkrilktha: (what kind of psionist cant read minds? :P)
(3) Randall: it seems that s sp a day is the standard wage
(3) Randall: 3 sp a day
(2) Shaorin: (one that isn't specialized in telepathy and didn't spend a feat to learn Read Thoughts?)
(4) Lae'nial: (I have 1332 gp - What would I do with 3sp?)
(3) Randall: OC: yeah, you know I thought of that a few minutes ago
(5) Kelensiya: (that's like those pathetic bard wages. DC 30 and you get 3d6 GP?)
(2) Shaorin: (that's why most adventurers don't hire on as guards just for the money)
(4) Lae'nial: (Well, you're playing before commoners, probably. Not that much gold to start with)
(3) Randall: just a sec
(2) Shaorin: (same DC to get 3d6 gp/day and to get attention from extraplanar beings because you're so incredibly good)
(2) Shaorin: (how does THAT make sense?)
(5) Kelensiya: (Extraplanar beings are cheapskates)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (very much so)
(3) Randall: kelensiya is standing next to you
(3) Randall: damn
(3) Randall: trying to keep another conversation
(3) Randall: [1d20] -> [8] = (8)
(3) Randall: Cht and shaorin hear a commotion outside
** (2) Shaorin goes out to investigate **
** (1) Chtkrilktha follows **
(3) Randall: LAe;nial and Kelensiya seem to be in the middle of an argument with some guards
(3) Randall: One of the guards shouts at Kelensiya "keep out of this elf lover!"
** (5) Kelensiya attempts to solve the situation with a little Diplomacy... **
(5) Kelensiya: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+16] -> [19,16] = (35)
** (1) Chtkrilktha walks up and stands right behind the person that shouted **
(2) Shaorin: (backup option: I attempt to intimidate them with my mere +10 bonus :P)
(5) Kelensiya: (hehe, I've also got a lot of ranks in Bluff)
(3) Randall: good diploamcy. they go from hostile to friendly.
(1) Chtkrilktha: (Shouldnt there be talking here?)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (skill checks should not replace roleplaying...)
(5) Kelensiya: Elf? Why do you say he's an elf?
(5) Kelensiya: And if he is, why attack? Their wrongdoings are long past.
(4) Lae'nial: (http://archive.gamespy.com/comics/dorktower/archive.asp?nextform=viewcomic&id=1013)
(2) Shaorin: (er, that would be a bluff, not diplomacy)
(3) Randall: I was thinking he should say something to go with it
(5) Kelensiya: (er, oops.)
(5) Kelensiya: (Hey, doesn't pointing out that there are occasional mutations in any gene pool count as diplomacy if done politely?)
(2) Shaorin: (I rather doubt anyone has such knowledge in a typical D&D world)
(2) Shaorin: (well, not stated that way, at least)
(5) Kelensiya: (yeah, that'd be fun to phrase)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (then phrase it!)
(3) Randall: OC: ok, perhaps not that great a mood change but they see the others arrive and give you the warning
(3) Randall: diplomacy works best when backed up by a strong sword arm
(5) Kelensiya: Surely you are aware that there are differences in people? He was simply unfortunate to have a birth defect.
(5) Kelensiya: (that's what Cth is for)
(2) Shaorin: "I'll have you know, this elf helped save the life of a paladin, and aided greatly in disposing of a rather nasty evil artifact"
(4) Lae'nial: (...)
(5) Kelensiya: (oh wonderful... storyspinning time)
(3) Randall: The guards back off after giving you the warning "If I werew you I'd leave town, or there might be trouble"
(5) Kelensiya: Are you hurt, Lae'nial?
(2) Shaorin: And go where?
(4) Lae'nial: "No."
(5) Kelensiya: Good.
(3) Randall: The guards turn and leave
(3) Randall: brb
(5) Kelensiya: (bah, you weren't going to use some cool spell on them?)
(1) Chtkrilktha: "Perhaps following the flow of a merchant group will remave us from these backwards creatures."
(4) Lae'nial: (Besides being tactically unwise, it is just plain unwise)
(3) Randall: OC: I'm lost, what's unwise?
(4) Lae'nial: (Fireballing them)
(3) Randall: OC ah
(5) Kelensiya: (I was thinking Suggestions or something, not Fireball)
(4) Lae'nial: (Not that Lae'nial is very wise, but he's certainly intelligent enough to compensate, somewhat)
(4) Lae'nial: (Lae'nial dislikes compulsions)
(2) Shaorin: (sadly, I don't think we have much, if any, of such subtle spells at our disposal)
(5) Kelensiya: (heh. yay bardic music)
(3) Randall: OC: if youre going to work for the merchants, decide which one so I can plan the next adventure
(5) Kelensiya: Might I travel with you on your journeys? You provide me with much inspiration for music.
(4) Lae'nial: "You have certainly proven helpfull."
(2) Shaorin: Certainly
** (5) Kelensiya makes a small curtsy **
(1) Chtkrilktha: (no going north. need to get away from ice creatures)
(5) Kelensiya: Thank you
(2) Shaorin: Anyway, we should start planning where to go
(2) Shaorin: These merchant caravans might be convenient
(3) Randall: OC: damn my 7 month old nephew just fell backwards and mad e ethunp you could hear downstairs
(5) Kelensiya: (ouch! better check on him o.O)
(4) Lae'nial: (There are certain difficulties in chewing peanut butter which the taste compensates for)
(3) Randall: he's shut up now
(4) Lae'nial: (Still, better check on him)
(3) Randall: his mother stuck something in his mouth
(5) Kelensiya: (cast Cure Light Wounds
(3) Randall: so, no scandanavian like islands. That leaves the dwarf mountains, or forest in the south
(2) Shaorin: (what's that circle on the whiteboard supposed to be?)
(4) Lae'nial: (Idea - Nerf: The Player's Guide - With spells like Cure Serious Hounds)
(3) Randall: that was where the elves are
(4) Lae'nial: (Do dwarves hate elves here?)
(4) Lae'nial: (The elves probably wouldn't react to well to any humans in our group)
(3) Randall: Dwarfs didn't get involved so they don't have the same hatred for elves as humans, however dwarfs don't get on with elves as such. they prefer to saty underground and not get involved
(5) Kelensiya: (or the insect thing. What DO Thri-Kreen look like?)
(3) Randall: tey don't out and out hate them, they just think differently mountains vs trees
(1) Chtkrilktha: (well... if ice creatures dont show up to allow shaorin to kill all of them at once, scandinavian ilses could be interesting ;))
(1) Chtkrilktha: (giant praying mantis)
(5) Kelensiya: (and that doesn't even scare people? ok..)
(4) Lae'nial: (Dwarves, I guess)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (I was hoping it would)
(5) Kelensiya: (Dunno about you, but those mandibles scare me enough normal-sized)
(3) Randall: so is it the dwarf stuff then?
(2) Shaorin: (would the south road still keep us in human-dominated (anti-elf) land?)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (caves are rather cliche I think)
(4) Lae'nial: (So mortar the walls!)
(5) Kelensiya: (I still can't get over how you have so many ranks in Knowledge (Architecture) :P )
(4) Lae'nial: (Decorate them. Turn it into dwarven artwork. No more flat, boring rooms)
(3) Randall: all that area is human. the southern forest is other races and the mountains is all dwarf with a few human trading towns
(4) Lae'nial: (Only 4)
(3) Randall: the isles are human but a different culture
** (2) Shaorin flips a copper piece a few times **
(2) Shaorin: [1d3] -> [1] = (1)
(5) Kelensiya: (3?)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (different culture sounds nice)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (Its a clunky coin)
(5) Kelensiya: (heh)
(4) Lae'nial: (Edge, of course)
(2) Shaorin: (with a sufficient number of flips, you can get even chances for 3 choices from a two-sided coin)
(1) Chtkrilktha: (right...)
(2) Shaorin: (with 19 intelligence, I'm sure Shaorin can figure out how easily enough)
(3) Randall: by culture I naturally mean scandinavian. anyway I really have to go. If you can decide in a day or two post it on the forums and that wiull give me eneough time to work on something. I have ideas but was waiting for which area we went to
(3) Randall: I have to look after my nephew
(1) Chtkrilktha: (it should be noted that vikings rock)
(1) Chtkrilktha: bye
(2) Shaorin: (well, the dice picked the isles)
(3) Randall: I have some ideas for rune magic and stuff
(5) Kelensiya: bye bye
(3) Randall: if I leave does that make the log unavailable
(3) Randall: ?
(4) Lae'nial: (Bye)
(4) Lae'nial: (Don't think so)
(3) Randall: Disconnecting from server...
(3) Randall (exit): 20:03
(4) Lae'nial: (AH! THE LOG IS GONE!)
