(3) GM: righto then. Last time you had enetered the trolls lair. You had a short fight with the Fensir, knocking it unconscious and then you thought about how to deal with the mother troll that the others seem to be collecting sheep for
(3) GM: there were also two babies int he alir
(3) GM: in the lair
(4) Lae'nial: (So...Diplomacy with the fat troll?)
(1) Arilou: (Uhhh, it's a troll, what are we trying to figure out?)
(4) Lae'nial: (Tell it to stop stealing sheep?)
(1) Arilou: (Uh, to what end? Trolls aren't generally good creatures)
(3) GM: OC: well it might seem straight forward, but we ended with everyone debating what to do, seeing as how the mother troll was eating the sheep and had two abbies
(5) Shaorin: (some of us prefer to avoid unnecessary killing, especially of babies, whatever their race)
(5) Shaorin: (and these trolls have been here for some time without bothering the surrounding area)
(1) Arilou: (Once they grow in number, it will become a problem)
(5) Shaorin: (we can't really know that for certain (these aren't the same as standard D&D trolls), and, well, I took a few exalted feats and I'd rather not lose them...)
(1) Arilou: (Why would you lose exalted feats, and how are these trolls different from standard DnD trolls?)
(3) GM: OC: these aren't big green regenerating trolls, they are Norse trolls. different background.
(3) GM: brb
(1) Arilou: (wait, so is this world based on norse mythology?)
(5) Shaorin: (I don't really know much about these trolls, and they've shown signs of having quite reasonable motivations for their actions. Given that, not attempting to resolve the situation without killing potential innocents would not be the act of an exalted character, I think.)
(5) Shaorin: (We may end up killing them anyway depending on what we find out from the suspected mother troll, but I'm pretty much obligated to investigate first)
(3) GM: OC: Arilou. It's just these islands that are norse. Not every adventure will have norse mosnters. I just picked afew that fit in with the current area
(3) GM: OC: to be honest all this debate surprised me
(4) Lae'nial: (Why?)
(1) Arilou: (Well, I am just trying to get a better feel for the world and the mythology)
(3) GM: OC: that's ok. I have some plans to accomodate you.
(3) GM: OC: I guess i simply didn't expect the party to debate so uch :), but hey that's ok. Whatever the party wants to do
(4) Lae'nial: (Well, let's go meet the troll queen)
(1) Arilou: (well, I suppose we should do something, I am going to try and talk to the beast)
(1) Arilou: Knowledge: Nature Skill Check: [1d20+9] -> [19,9] = (28)
(1) Arilou: (to see if I know much about this particular breed of trolls)
(5) Shaorin: (well, this is the first time we've fought things that we wouldn't have no compunction about killing. Undead, extremely evil cleric of an evil god, dangerous enemies in the heat of battle? Kill them all and move on. Easily overwhelmed enemies that we aren't certain deserve death? debate begins :P)
(4) Lae'nial: (Um...Is the GM going to say something?)
(3) GM: I think I can explain some suff with a score like that. Fensir, commonly called trolls although they are no relation, live in norse areas. Theya re a type of giant and sunlight turns them to stone. When a Female Fensir has babies they commonly have twins. After having twins it is common for the mother to start growing. As she gets larger her intelelct dwindles and the family is forced to roam the area gathering food to feed her increadsing hunger. The Rakka, as the mother is now called, thinks obnly of feeding, and this continues until she eventually dies at which poiunt the family, having no more reason for living, wander the area no longer kbnowing what to do, pillaging.
(3) GM: took a while to type
(4) Lae'nial: (How could such a species possibly survive?)
(1) Arilou: (A magical world :P)
(3) GM: well maybe it's nopt exactly common but it may happen
(5) Shaorin: (ok, explain all that to us, and I think it's time to pull out all the stops and just kill them all)
(4) Lae'nial: (Drop the babies off with a different tribe)
** (1) Arilou Explains that once the mother dies here children will pillage and kill randomly **
(4) Lae'nial: (Family, not children. If they get dropped off with a different tribe, that may not happen)
(5) Shaorin: (so, um, how do the babies survive with their entire family dead shortly after their birth?)
(1) Arilou: (Hey Randall, do these trolls ever exchange their children for human children, as trolls from norse mythology sometimes did?)
(1) Arilou: (Who says the mother dies shortly after the children are born, it could take a while for her to die)
(1) Arilou: (probably the reason that sort of behavior developed is once the mother has children, they begin gathering food, and the mother no longer needs to, hense why she grows fat and dumb untill she dies from inactivity and obesity)
(3) GM: it takes about a year for her to die. The Fiend folio entry says nothing about them changing babies
(1) Arilou: (That is a norse thing, not necessarily DnD)
(1) Arilou: (Norse trolls and elves sometiems switched their children with human children)
(2) Kelensiya: (For what purpose?)
(3) GM: OC: I think I might ahve mentione dthat sort of thing when we mewntione delves
(4) Lae'nial: (Mythology doesn't have to make sense unless you're drunk)
(1) Arilou: (With elves they only switched out their "bad" children, with trolls I have no idea)
(4) Lae'nial: (Faerie tales are just campfire stories)
(5) Shaorin: Wikipedia entry on Changelings
(5) Shaorin: ("The motivation for this conduct stems from the desire to have a human servant, the love of a human child, or from malice. Some people believed that trolls would take unbaptized children. The reality behind many changeling legends was often the birth of deformed or retarded children.")
(1) Arilou: (Unfortunately all my mythology books are in boxes, so I can't look anything up)
(1) Arilou: (anyways, on with the show!)
(2) Kelensiya: How then shall we stop the children from becoming marauders? What do you propose to do?
** (5) Shaorin is glad to have an expert on the subject on hand **
(5) Shaorin: Is there any recourse to stop their depredations without killing them?
(1) Arilou: Maybe
(1) Arilou: I believe these to be intelligent creatures, we might be able to take the children to a forest spirit, to raise in peace..... but I do not know if such a thing would work
(3) GM: [1d100] -> [42] = (42)
** (1) Arilou attempts to drag the unconscious fensir around the corner **

(3) GM: lets just say with some trouble you manage. The fensir stirs a bit but doesn't wake up
(1) Arilou: (Waiit, we can just drag it, I am sure it isn't past our combined max waits)
(1) Arilou: I think we should put it down out of sight of the mother and babies *whisper
** (4) Lae'nial does that. **
(1) Arilou: (by put it down I meant kill it)
** (4) Lae'nial does not do taht. **
(5) Shaorin: But there is no option but to kill the mother? And her adult family would lose the will to live? (whispered)
(1) Arilou: They would lose the will to live organized, they would continue to live, but as animals, pillaging and murdering (whispered)
** (1) Arilou draws his knife **
(5) Shaorin: *sigh* I don't like it, but it seems we have no choice.
** (4) Lae'nial looks fustrated **
(3) GM: OC: don't worry I won't hold it against you
** (5) Shaorin does not interfere as Arilou kills the troll **
(1) Arilou: Sometimes you have to think of the greater good
** (1) Arilou coup de gras attack **
(3) GM: I find it funny that the little 8 bit characters are doing such a thing, Black Mage would be proud :)

(1) Arilou: Knowledge: Nature Skill Check: [1d20+9] -> [2,9] = (11)
(3) GM: no they don't regenerate
(1) Arilou: Ok, now are we still planning to take the children, if so, we are going to need to get them away from the mother (whsper)
(4) Lae'nial: (Advancing to cave mouth entrance)
** (1) Arilou sheaths his knife and draws his bow **
(4) Lae'nial: (Waiting for reaction)
(3) GM: The Rakka notices the party. She stops eating for a moment and stares at you. The she roars and reaches down for a rock lying nearby.

(1) Arilou: (Hence why I took of my cloak)
Attempting to assign the role of GM to (6) GM...
(6) GM: got disconencted
(1) Arilou: (Anyways, if we spent some time, I might be able to find a forest spirit (Sprite, Dryad, something similar, to raise them)
(6) GM: maybe, forest spirits aren't all wise though, they can be selfish and only think of their domain
(5) Shaorin: (remind me, do we have a crowd of farmers waiting outside the cave for us?)
(6) GM: yes I think they are still there
** (1) Arilou wraps the young fensir in his cloak **
(6) GM: They snuggle up to each other
** (1) Arilou picks them up **
(5) Shaorin: As long as they keep quiet, that looks like it should do for them for the moment.
(1) Arilou: All right, lets get going
** (1) Arilou checks to make sure they have plenty of jerky **
(6) GM: You depart.
** (5) Shaorin divides the pile of gold into roughly equal portions for each of us (5 shares, I think) and takes one of the shares **
(6) GM: luckily enought here were 500 gp
(5) Shaorin: (how much gold was it?)
(6) GM: seeing as how were past end time, theres no need to RP it. Just say you left the babies with whomever and returned to the city
(6) GM: Maybe take babies to city
(1) Arilou: Ok
(6) GM: though I'd be slightly inetrested in waht you decide to do
(4) Lae'nial: (Find a clan of good giants or other people capable and willing to take care of them)
(6) GM: In norse mythology there are no good giants
(6) GM: Ragnarok and all that
(1) Arilou: Actually Syrtr was neutral I believe
** (5) Shaorin asks the crowd who lost sheep to the raids, how many, and how much a grown sheep is worth around here, and compensates them for their losses out of his 100 gp loot. **
(1) Arilou: And I think Freija or frigga was a giant
(6) GM: hmm, i'll hjave to check the price of sheep later. Shouldn't be much
(1) Arilou: Anyways, I would like to find a friendly forest spirit to leave them with
(6) GM: actually.......do you just leave?
(1) Arilou: Yah, but I have the baby fensir wrapped in a blanket
(1) Arilou: Or rather, my cloak
(6) GM: ok then
(6) GM: You move up the tunnel and leave through the cave entrance. the sound of water flowing coming from behind you
(4) Lae'nial: (My cloak is up)
(6) GM: right then, we'll call it a day
