(3) Randall: Right well then, You set out with Hauk as your guide
(3) Randall: You start out in the fjord, following a steep trail that leads up into the hills. The winter snow tops the nearby mountains.
(3) Randall: You are riding horses supplied by Raknar.
(3) Randall: As you ride along Hauk starts to speak "So what is it like outside the isles?"
(2) Lae'nial: "Very confusing. But then, many places seem confusing."
(4) Shaorin: Where we've been recently, unfriendliness to elves was the most notable feature it seemed.
(5) Chtkrilktha: "At the source, air currents only carry sands, not chilling ice and snow."
(3) Randall: Elves?, you've met elves. My mother used to tell me they lived deep in the woods and stole children
(2) Lae'nial: (/me bashes c++)
(5) Chtkrilktha: "Elves do not care much for the deserts of the source."
(4) Shaorin: And what do you think of them?
(3) Randall: "I don't know I've never met any. Theya re spirits of the forests, only magicians and the gods commune with them"
** (2) Lae'nial refraines from sending the nice guide fleeing in terror. **
(4) Shaorin: Ah yes, a classic case of distortion over time.
(3) Randall: It is riumoured Lord Raknar has met them. SOme suspect he made a deal with them, that is how he became so powerful
(4) Shaorin: They're not all that grand
** (2) Lae'nial notes that the humans on this world possibly consume a little to much halucenogenic compounds. **
(2) Lae'nial: * Not aloud, of course.
(4) Shaorin: At least it's better than the very near kill on sight attitude that gave us some trouble back on the mainland.
(3) Randall: HAuk leads you further on. You are moving further up into the mountains. The forests gets darker and thicker as you move on. "We should reach the farms by dusk" he says
(5) Chtkrilktha: "Fur-creatures are flighty."
(2) Lae'nial: "...Flying squirrels?"
(3) Randall: At trekking all day you eventually reach a valley. As you start your descent you can see a number of sod covered houses and herds of sheep corralled in pens.
(5) Chtkrilktha: "What are flying squirrels?"
(2) Lae'nial: "A small animal I have heard about that has flaps of skin between it's legs, allowing it to glide."
** (5) Chtkrilktha continues the descent **
(3) Randall: You travel down the mountainside until you reach the nearest farm. A man is hurredly moving towards the house.
** (2) Lae'nial allows some else to hurredly move toward the man to find out what the rush is. **
(3) Randall: Hauk hails the man by name, and he motions you to the house
(3) Randall: You move towards him. "Hurry"he says "it's nearly dark"
(2) Lae'nial: "I presume the trolls come at night?"
** (4) Shaorin hurries along **
(3) Randall: "Well they wouldn't come in the day would they?" Hauk asks, with a puzzled look on his face
(3) Randall: You place your mounts in the stable and go inside
(3) Randall: AS you enter the house you see a family moving about preparing for dinner.
(3) Randall: Hauk introduces you to the family "Boss Raknar has hired these foreigners to deal with the Fensir"
(3) Randall: There is a small child who stands motionless in the middle of the room. It stares with wide eyes at Cht
(3) Randall: The rest of the family are also taken aback by your appearance
** (5) Chtkrilktha stares back at the child **
(5) Chtkrilktha: "Mother-creature not teach impoliteness of staring?"
(3) Randall: "The lottle child starts crying and runs to its mother
(3) Randall: The father speaks up "Well I'm glad someone is going to take care of them. If they stole anymore of our sheep we'd have no way of living"
(4) Shaorin: You are a rather ... unusual ... sight around here, Chtkrilktha. It's only natural the little ones would stare.
** (5) Chtkrilktha clicks mandibles **
(5) Chtkrilktha: "Flighty."
(3) Randall: The mother talks "Well if you are going to fight the Fensir, you'll need to keep your strength up. Sit down and we'll see about feeding you"
** (2) Lae'nial sits down **
** (5) Chtkrilktha squats in front of tables, human chairs not really suited for mantisoids **
(3) Randall: The table holds stews and slightly stale bread
(4) Shaorin: Thank you
** (4) Shaorin sits down **
(3) Randall: OC: this is going quicker than I expected, maybe we will get in some fighting
(2) Lae'nial: "Thank you"
(4) Shaorin: (I don't actually need to eat, but it would be rude to refuse :P)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (shall I frighten some more small children?)
(2) Lae'nial: (No, I think you shouldn't use Fyron in the game)
(2) Lae'nial: ( :D )
(5) Chtkrilktha: (*sniff*)
(2) Lae'nial: ( /me hands Fyron some cheese )
(3) Randall: The family starts to eat their stew, tearing some stales bread off and soaking it in it
** (2) Lae'nial begins to eat. **
(2) Lae'nial: (/me was not born in a palace and is quite familiar with farm eating)
(3) Randall: "Well" says the father "you shouldn't have to wait long. The Fensir come down from the forest and steal some sheep most nights"
** (4) Shaorin takes a small serving of stew and soaks a somewhat undersized chunk of bread and eats them slowly **
(4) Shaorin: How many of them are there?
(3) Randall: "We think it's a small family. about 3-4 of them"
(2) Lae'nial: "Have you seen them?"
(3) Randall: "I saw one, I saw a Fensir" cries the little girl
(3) Randall: "Hush Edny, let your father talk" says the mother
(5) Chtkrilktha: (is lvl 6 a feat level?)
(4) Shaorin: (for normal characters, yes. for you, no)
(4) Shaorin: (feats are based on hit dice, not ECL)
(3) Randall: "I caught a glance of one the other night. Damn big things. OF course we've always known they were in the forest but it hasn't been till recently that theys tarted raiding the farms"
(4) Shaorin: Any idea why they started raiding?
(3) Randall: "My great uncle, now there was a strange one, went into the forest once and hasn't been seen since. As for the Fensir, as you would expect they come out at night. We don't know why. They just started taking our stock. I assume they eat them. IF so they must have big appetites"
(5) Chtkrilktha: (feats are based on level, not hit dice)
(4) Shaorin: (from the SRD: " A monsters total Hit Dice, not its ECL, govern its acquisition of feats and ability score increases.")
(5) Chtkrilktha: (i meant to say lvl 3 anyways, since i am lvl 3 fighter. or should be, rather. pretty sure the hit die thing applies before you get class levels, not after. unless they changed it too)
(3) Randall: brb
(4) Shaorin: (racial hit dice count towards feats and ability score increases)
(4) Shaorin: (you have 2 racial hit dice and 3 class levels for a total of 5 hit dice, so you should have 2 feats and 1 ability score bump total from hit dice/levels)
(4) Shaorin: (plus racial and fighter bonus feats, of course)
(4) Shaorin: (you should have gotten your 3rd level feat at fighter level 1)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (this is why d&d sucks... to many inconsistent rules. *sigh*)
(4) Shaorin: (how is it inconsistent?)
(4) Shaorin: (it's just treating monster hit dice exactly as if they were levels in a class)
(4) Shaorin: (except they don't count towards multiclassing xp penalties)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (it should have just stuck with levels)
(3) Randall: back
(3) Randall: Tell me when your ready
(4) Shaorin: Well, the Fensir will find a bit more than sheep waiting for them tonight.
(3) Randall: You eat the rest of your meal
(3) Randall: An hour passes before the sheep outside start to make a noise
(3) Randall: The farmer gets up and goes to peer outside
** (5) Chtkrilktha also peers outside **
** (4) Shaorin takes a look **
** (2) Lae'nial takes a look **
(3) Randall: anyone got dark vision or lowlight
(2) Lae'nial: * Stooges!
(2) Lae'nial: (Lowlight, I'd think. Elf)
** (5) Chtkrilktha does **
(5) Chtkrilktha: (darkvision 60 ft)
(4) Shaorin: (no special vision for me. though I can project a 20 ft cone of light if I want to)
** (2) Lae'nial queitly points out the dark figure lurking near the sheep pens. **
(3) Randall: AS you watcxh the dark figure moves towards the agtes of the pen
(4) Shaorin: (can I see it at all?)
** (2) Lae'nial walks out into the yard and says "Excuse me, but those aren't your sheep." **
(5) Chtkrilktha: "There is a large 10 foot figure wearing furs annd a cap"
(3) Randall: it opens the gate and starts to pick up sheep, who futilely attempt to struggle.
(5) Chtkrilktha: "...lurking near the pens"
(2) Lae'nial: Lae'nial casts Magic Missile ( level 1, "1d4+1 damage; +1 missile/two levels above 1st (max +5)." )
(3) Randall: having it pointed out means you can just see it
(2) Lae'nial: (Actually, cancel that. Warning shot with bow)
** (4) Shaorin follows Lae'nial into the yard **
(2) Lae'nial: Longbow Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [17,6] = (23) ===> Damage: [1d8+0] -> [6,0] = (6)
(4) Shaorin: (warning shot means you deliberately miss, usually)
** (5) Chtkrilktha steps outside and prepares to leap towards creature **
(2) Lae'nial: (Well, I'm sure I missed very well.)
(2) Lae'nial: (BRB)
(3) Randall: i'm uploading the picture
(2) Lae'nial: (Back)
(3) Randall: The Fensir is atrtled by the arrow shot. It grabs 2 sheep and turns to leave
** (5) Chtkrilktha leaps **
(4) Shaorin: Shaorin Trannyth uses Grease ( level 1, "Makes 10-ft. square or one object slippery." )
(3) Randall: init iative then
(4) Shaorin: Initiative: [1d20+2] -> [16,2] = (18)
(2) Lae'nial: Dex check: [1d20+4] -> [17,4] = (21)
(3) Randall: [1d20] -> [1] = (1)
(3) Randall: [1d100] -> [58] = (58)
** (5) Chtkrilktha found the F2 macro key **
** (5) Chtkrilktha found the F1 macro key **
(5) Chtkrilktha: ack
(5) Chtkrilktha: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [16,6] = (22)
(3) Randall: OC: damn d20 was covered, I'll take the roll though
(5) Chtkrilktha: (hah)
(3) Randall: right so cht goes first
(5) Chtkrilktha: (how far away are we?)
(3) Randall: you are at the door of the house
(5) Chtkrilktha: (5 ft or 10 ft scale?)
(3) Randall: 5ft
(5) Chtkrilktha: (can we just pretend the leap makes it? I dont feel like wasting time in the rulebooks)
(3) Randall: I'm not sure how leap works. Do you mean to leap all the ay to it?
(5) Chtkrilktha: (pretty sure I can make it, and yes)
(4) Shaorin: (why not just charge?)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (its something like d20 + leap skill for me, since I am thrikreen; just dont rememebre specifics)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (leap is more fitting for thrikreen)
(4) Shaorin: (long jump is a jump check with DC = feet travelled, double DC if you don't have a 20 ft running start)
(4) Shaorin: (so run 20 and leap the last 30 with a DC 30 jump check, which I believe you automatically succeed on)
(3) Randall: if that were the case then you'd make it
(5) Chtkrilktha: (+40 is a nice bonus)
(4) Shaorin: (right, you can jump 20 feet from a standing start without possibility of failure)
(3) Randall: that's a full round action. seeing as how you ran
(4) Shaorin: (isn't the world record long jump something like 25 feet or so?)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (ugh)
(3) Randall: , except runnign for you would be 80ft?
(3) Randall: so I suppose it's just a standard action
(5) Chtkrilktha: (then I walk quickly :P)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (too many rules)
(4) Shaorin: (just count it as part of his movement in the charge)
(3) Randall: yeah ok
(4) Shaorin: (I'm pretty sure most charges involve running)
(4) Shaorin: (:P)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (too many rules)
(4) Shaorin: (so, anyway, make your attack)
(3) Randall: yeah
** (5) Chtkrilktha leaps towards the creature, thrusting with gythkas **
(5) Chtkrilktha: Gythka (MW), double wield Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [16,6] = (22)===> DMG: [1d8+4] -> [7,4] = (11)
(5) Chtkrilktha: Gythka (MW), double wield Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [10,6] = (16)===> DMG: [1d8+4] -> [8,4] = (12)
(3) Randall: you strike with your first blow
(3) Randall: lae'nials turn
(2) Lae'nial: (Hold action - If it fights back, shoot at it)
(3) Randall: readied action?
(2) Lae'nial: "See if it will surrender!"
(2) Lae'nial: (Yeah, readied action)
(3) Randall: shaorins turn
** (4) Shaorin moves forward and concentrates, and a layer of grease appears under the fensir **
(4) Shaorin: (reflex DC 17 or fall)
(3) Randall: LAe'nial can you palce your picture
(2) Lae'nial: (Missing that, too.)
(3) Randall: [1d20+2] -> [16,2] = (18)
(3) Randall: haha
(2) Lae'nial: (Blue dot)
(4) Shaorin: (damn lucky roll :( )
(3) Randall: fensirs turn
(3) Randall: [1d100+2] -> [19,2] = (21)
(3) Randall: the Fensir gestures
(2) Lae'nial: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+12] -> [3,12] = (15)
(2) Lae'nial: (Ouch)
(4) Shaorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [7,10] = (17)
(3) Randall: hmm small change of plan
(2) Lae'nial: (Does anybody else see the lines on the whiteboard flash when the mouse is moved over them?)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (no)
(4) Shaorin: (no)
(3) Randall: cht make a will save DC12
(2) Lae'nial: (Huh. Wierd. Maybe it's just the latest version)
(5) Chtkrilktha: Will save: [1d20+5] -> [7,5] = (12)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (nice)
(4) Shaorin: (do I have any idea what that just was?)
(3) Randall: a spray of multicolours erupts in chts face but he turns his head
(3) Randall: the Fensir turns and starts to move off
(4) Shaorin: (ah, color spray)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (attack of opportunity?)
(3) Randall: yes
(5) Chtkrilktha: Gythka (MW), double wield Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [16,6] = (22)===> DMG: [1d8+4] -> [5,4] = (9)
(4) Shaorin: (I think he needs to make a balance check DC 10 to move off the grease)
(3) Randall: right
(3) Randall: [1d20+1] -> [5,1] = (6)
(4) Shaorin: (well, that's enough to not fall down... :) )
(4) Shaorin: (barely)
(3) Randall: [1d20+2] -> [14,2] = (16)
(3) Randall: it stays up for a second bu then slips
(3) Randall: meanwhile cht strikes it
(3) Randall: it lies on the ground moaning
(2) Lae'nial: (Oops...Trying to move blue dot)
(3) Randall: next turn
(5) Chtkrilktha: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [6,6] = (12)
(2) Lae'nial: Dex check: [1d20+4] -> [9,4] = (13)
(3) Randall: [1d20+1] -> [15,1] = (16)
(4) Shaorin: Initiative: [1d20+2] -> [2,2] = (4)
(3) Randall: the creature lies on the fround and starts to make a motion
(3) Randall: ground
(3) Randall: lae'nial still ahs a readied action
(2) Lae'nial: (What sort of motion?)
(3) Randall: he is casting
(4) Shaorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [15,10] = (25)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (is that another AOO?)
(2) Lae'nial: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+12] -> [4,12] = (16)
(4) Shaorin: (does Cht get and AoO or is he making a concentration check to cast defensively?)
(3) Randall: I suppose he would get AoO, but i'll check
(4) Shaorin: (either way, unless it's got ranks in concentration it's probably going to lose the spell)
(3) Randall: yes an AoO
(4) Shaorin: (DC 15+spell level to cast defensively, spell fizzles if check fails, or DC 10+spell level+damage dealt if the AoO hits)
(5) Chtkrilktha: Gythka (MW), double wield Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [20,6] = (26)===> DMG: [1d8+4] -> [5,4] = (9)
(4) Shaorin: (ouch, that's a crit threat)
(3) Randall: Fensir down and out
(3) Randall: beter roll crit to make sure
(3) Randall: nevermind, was thinking of characters
(3) Randall: so the Fensir lies dead
** (4) Shaorin walks over to check if it's regenerating like the trolls he's familiar with do **
(3) Randall: no sign of regeneration
(5) Chtkrilktha: Gythka (MW), double wield Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [17,6] = (23)===> DMG: [1d8+4] -> [5,4] = (9)
(3) Randall: yep definitely dead
** (2) Lae'nial walks over and said "Maybe we could have talked him out of it." **
(2) Lae'nial: * Says
(2) Lae'nial: "He certainly wasn't dangerous."
(4) Shaorin: He was obviously intelligent since he could cast spells.
(3) Randall: The farmer hurries over to pen the sheep in. The rest of his family stand at the door looking on
(5) Chtkrilktha: "what should we do with the corpse?"
(3) Randall: OC: where are the treasure rules?
(4) Shaorin: (for random treasure, you mean?)
(3) Randall: yes
(2) Lae'nial: "Burial is the common option."
(4) Shaorin: (that section starts on page 51 of the DMG)
(5) Chtkrilktha: "Burning in a heap is a more traditional method for enemies amongst my people."
(5) Chtkrilktha: (whcih actually makes little sense in a desert... scratch that)
(2) Lae'nial: "I'm not sure a sheep-stealer quite qualifies as an enemy. Not enough malice."
(2) Lae'nial: (Ignore that too?)
(3) Randall: [1d100+1] -> [89,1] = (90)
(3) Randall: in it's pocket you find 2 potions
(4) Shaorin: Well, that was a tad anticlimactic.
(4) Shaorin: (to the farmer) It's your land, how should we deal with the corpse?
(3) Randall: I'll burn it. But we best get it done fast fast. AS soon as the sun comes up it will turn to stone
(3) Randall: "This is only one of them though. I don't know where the rest are"
(2) Lae'nial: "That would seem to take care of the problem all by itself. Well, save the one of having statues scattered around your property."
(3) Randall: "Yes but they only come out at night"
(4) Shaorin: I think he was referring to the corpse.
(3) Randall: OC: oh, I see
(4) Shaorin: Now, for the rest of them we can either keep waiting here or try to track where this one came from. Except I'm no good at tracking. Can either of you track?
(5) Chtkrilktha: (what skill is that?)
(4) Shaorin: (I think finding tracks in the first place is search, but following them requires a feat and uses the survival skill)
(3) Randall: note survival is wilderness lore
(5) Chtkrilktha: (I liked Alternity's method of just making everything skill based...)
(3) Randall: brb
(4) Shaorin: (make that, search is a backup option for those who don't have survival skill but can only be used to find tracks, not follow them)
(4) Shaorin: (following tracks requires the Track feat if the DC is higher than 10)
(3) Randall: yes, how goes your idea to play ALternity, not well i guess
(5) Chtkrilktha: (survivial can be used to track DC 10 or lower conditions)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (noone volunteered to GM alternity :-\)
(2) Lae'nial: (I didn't even know you were fishing - But then, I don't have enough time for another RP anyway)
(4) Shaorin: (hmm, looking at the DC modifiers, tracking on anything but very soft ground would require the Track feat here)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (it was large, so -1)
(4) Shaorin: (but at least +3 for visibility because it's night)
(4) Shaorin: (though I suppose darkvision might negate that)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (poor visibility is irrelevant unless it becomse foggy or snows or something; darkness matters not)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (i do have 3 ranks in wilderness lore aka survival)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (i dont recall mention of it snowing or anything atm though)
(2) Lae'nial: (Methinks mind-mapping software and FateRPG could potentially be a very fun combination)
(5) Chtkrilktha: (but still too many rules ;))
(5) Chtkrilktha: (what is FateRPG?)
(4) Shaorin: (even so, we'd still need soft ground, and "Most normal outdoor surfaces" are firm)
(2) Lae'nial: (It's a Fudge varient - From what I've seen, probably better than the original: http://www.faterpg.com/ )
(5) Chtkrilktha: (whatever fudge is ;))
(2) Lae'nial: (Well, you don't need to know that to figure out FateRPG - I didn't)
(2) Lae'nial: ( :) )
(3) Randall: I'll try and introduce a way to find them next week
(3) Randall: but till then I'll cya
(4) Shaorin: ok
(4) Shaorin: bye
(2) Lae'nial: Ok, bye
(4) Shaorin: Disconnecting from server...
(4) Shaorin (exit): 20:07
(3) Randall: Disconnecting from server...
(3) Randall (exit): 20:07
(5) Chtkrilktha: [1d12] -> [6] = (6)
